Our verdict
Melody shares Aria's 17-motor head and edges the U1 on face and body (80 and 74 against 76 and 70), but it stays put below the waist while the U1 walks on flat indoor floors. Melody was built to order from $95,000 plus $199.99 a month and runs whatever AI you wire into it, but Realbotix stopped listing it in October 2026. The U1's Lite and Pro trims cost a fraction of that and keep an encrypted memory on the robot, but the U1 doesn't accept user programming and its emotion-reading figures are company claims.
- Pick Melody if
- Pick Melody if you're a builder who wants an expressive, portable platform for your own AI, and Realbotix will still sell you one.
- Pick UBTech U1 if
- Pick the U1 if you want a companion that walks, for far less money, and are happy with the personality UBTech ships.
